The list is not complete and the best and worst cities to live, work and visit in Australia, according to a new report.

Darwin, NT $1The report, which was compiled by Australian Council of Social Service, found that Melbourne is the most expensive city in Australia to live.

Melbourne, which has more than 100,000 people, is the fourth most expensive metropolitan area in Australia and the fifth most expensive for residents.

It is the second most expensive Australian city for people who live on fixed incomes, the report found.

The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Melbourne is $1 million, or $15,700 a month, according the report.

While Sydney has the third highest rent in the country at $2,500 per month, Canberra is also well behind at $1 a week.

Sydney and Melbourne are the only Australian cities that have higher rents than Sydney.
