The NHL is launching a new series of posts about the history and the future of the ice.

This week we look at the beginnings of the NHL’s first NHL franchise, the Philadelphia Flyers.

Here are a few things to know:In 1924, Philadelphia won the NHL Championship by defeating the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

They then moved to their current home at Broadmoor Park, Philadelphia.

In 1932, Flyers coach Frank Capra named the arena after Philadelphia’s great-great-grandfather, a Philadelphia native named Joseph J. Capra.

Capras nickname was “Capra” and the Flyers went on to win six more Stanley Cups before the franchise moved to Los Angeles in 1964.

Since its opening in 1962, Broadmores arena has hosted two NHL Stanley Cups.

The franchise’s last Stanley Cup victory came in 1995, when they beat the Detroit Red Wings, 3-2.
